IMG_2516Bold. Ambitious. Magnificent. Powerful words that most definitely describe Beethoven 9 and The Lark Ascending – the works featured on our season opening concert on Saturday, 17 October. But we think they can equally be applied to the #WePlayOn musicians. For the last nine months we have boldly and ambitiously played on because we believe our community deserves a professional orchestra, performing live music, right here in London.

The summer gave us ample opportunities to demonstrate our magnificence: at Sunfest; at Canada Day in Harris Park with guest conductor Mr. Peter Devlin, president of Fanshawe College; at Home County Music and Art Festival with singer/songwriter Sarah Slean; and ultimately by winning the London Music Awards trophy for ‘Classical Instrumental Group of the Year’.

Happy New Year!In early June we were invited to present ‘our story’ at the Orchestras Canada national meeting in Vancouver. Following our presentation, we received a standing ovation and were thrilled when representatives of the Canada Council for the Arts decided to revoke the customary three year post-bankruptcy waiting period, and will allow us to apply for funding.

Presenting a concert of the magnitude of Beethoven 9 is no mean feat from the kitchen table, and it can’t be done without an army of volunteers – to whom we are indebted and most grateful. It’s a bit like doing a jigsaw puzzle but with the pieces scattered throughout town in different people’s houses. Over the next couple of weeks we thought we might share with you some of the highs and lows of putting on a concert WPO-style.

Meanwhile, we hope to see you all on October 17 – it will be an evening to remember.

Canada Day 2015Bold. Ambitious. Magnificent. (BAM?!)

It’s the time of year when some of us are thinking about a trip to Europe, but realizing it may not be in the budget. The ‪#‎WePlayOn‬ musicians can guarantee sun, a Mediterranean atmosphere, and a fun-filled evening of world music – all on the patio at Mykonos Restaurant. Our very own principal clarinet – Graham Lord – will switch from classical to klezmer for this special Musical Feast. Please join us for some authentic Greek cuisine and enjoy the eclectic music of The Light of East Ensemble.

This event is sold out!

The #WePlayOn Musicians formerly of Orchestra London, wish to inform the community that Orchestra London Canada Inc.(OLC) has, today, filed for voluntary bankruptcy. The musicians have retained a bankruptcy trustee, after consultation with the Board of OLC. The purpose of this action is to enable the musicians to continue with their commitment to bringing live music to the community. This voluntary bankruptcy is necessary for the musicians to realize a new identity and form new partnerships within our community.
